OUR SCHOOL
Located in the rural community of Surkhet, Kopila Valley School is a not-for-profit private school offering world-class, completely free schooling to needful students in the region, some of whom otherwise would not have been able to attend school. Distinct from many schools in the area, KVS offers the best education through an innovative place-based active learning program, a leading-edge, sustainable “green” school campus, and comprehensive, ongoing training of local teachers.
Kopila Valley School is more than just a place to learn. At KVS, we are dedicated to creating an environment that fosters mutual respect, collaboration, deep learning, a connection with nature and the environment, and boundless creativity. Students here thrive at science fairs, theater performances, art month, football matches, and making a positive difference in themselves and their communities. KVS helps students become doers and future leaders.
Principal's Message
With the vision of creating a world where every child is safe, educated and loved, Kopila Valley School educates vulnerable children and their families in Surkhet, Nepal by providing quality education. Kopila Valley School has three different campuses, one for each developmental phase of our students’ educational journey. These include: 1) the early childhood village, 2) the primary and lower-secondary campus, and 3) the +2 management and vocational center.
We have around 425 students from preschool to grade 12 who are getting free education along with uniforms, textbooks, supplies, school lunch and snacks. Different departments under Kopila Valley Sewa Samaj work together to provide our students with counseling, health care services, and career guidance. We also offer training and awareness programs for guardians to strengthen our family units. These offerings are all in place to ensure that our students can give full focus to their studies and personal development.
Our school is rooted in Nepal’s government curriculum and complemented with international pedagogical best practices. We focus on ensuring students have a strong understanding of core subjects while offering a more localized curriculum to provide environmental, outdoor and global education learning opportunities for students to experience and to develop social, leadership and stewardship skills. We also work to prepare them for the future by teaching life and career skills. We try to engage our students in varieties of extra-curricular activities including visual and theatrical art, music/dance, yoga & meditation, clubs and physical education. We have learning lab support for the individual student struggling with their academics. With all these programs in function we try to ensure the REAL GROWTH of every child.
We have developed our school as a child centered, inclusive, ecological community space and an academic learning center. We want to share and give back what we have and are always willing to learn from you as well.
We welcome everyone across the globe to visit our school and support the cause.
