Transformative Teacher Workshop Facilitated by Professor Dr. Bidhyanath Koirala

A transformative two-day teacher workshop, facilitated by the esteemed Professor Dr. Bidhyanath Koirala, was held on the 21st and 22nd of this month. The workshop, which saw full attendance from all teachers, focused on equipping educators with the skills necessary to foster independent, research-oriented students. Emphasis was placed on using locally available materials as teaching aids and integrating traditional technology into the modern curriculum. The primary objectives of the workshop were to equip teachers with strategies to encourage students to become researchers, promote the use of local materials in teaching, integrate traditional technologies with modern curricula, and transform teachers into facilitators who provide concepts rather than content.

Dr. Koirala underscored the importance of guiding students to conduct their own research, training teachers on how to instill research skills in students, enabling them to independently seek out and verify information. A significant highlight of the workshop was the potential of local materials as effective teaching aids, with Dr. Koirala demonstrating various ways these resources could be utilized to enhance the learning experience. Participants learned to bridge the gap between traditional technologies and modern educational practices, focusing on making the curriculum more relevant and engaging by incorporating elements of local heritage and technology.

A significant portion of the workshop was dedicated to redefining the role of teachers. Dr. Koirala advocated for a shift from traditional teaching methods to a facilitation approach, where teachers provide concepts and frameworks, allowing students to explore and discover content independently. Teachers were encouraged to focus on delivering core concepts and guiding principles, leaving the detailed content exploration to the students, aiming to foster critical thinking and self-learning among students.

The workshop concluded with overwhelmingly positive feedback from the participants, who appreciated the practical insights and innovative teaching strategies presented by Dr. Koirala. The training was aligned with the needs of the Nepali education system, making it highly relevant and applicable. The program ended with a vote of thanks by School Director Bina Jha, and a token of appreciation was presented to Dr. Koirala by Chairman Top Malla, who also delivered the closing remarks. Overall, the workshop successfully equipped teachers with the necessary skills and perspectives to enhance their teaching practices, ultimately benefiting the students and the broader educational community.
